Our history
Although it doesn’t look it from the outside our church is
a Grade One Listed building. It was designed by Nugent Cachemaille-Day
and a church in Coutances, Normandy, had a strong influence on the
style.
It was consecrated on May 14th 1938 and its full title is The Bishop
Burroughs (of Ripon) Memorial Church. The total cost was £15,000.
The notable features are the 60ft pillars and the raised apse.
The Lady Chapel contains stained glass depicting the Epiphany stars,
by Christopher Webb.
On the floor of the Lady Chapel is painted a labyrinth (a more
recent addition).
The South trancept contains the St Nicholas Chapel, consecrated
on December 7th 1972.

exceeded all expectations and the ceremony was most impressive
and memorable. The procession, which toured the main streets
of the district prior to the service, was headed by the surpliced
choirs of the neighbouring churches ... followed by seventy
robed clergy, one hundred and fifty representatives of the Mothers
Union from various churches, Scouts and Girl Guides and members
from the church congregations. The procession was an inspiring
sight. Upon arrival at the site a peal of bells was broadcast
